It is recommended to have child evaluated by a doctor if Jaundice continues than longer the first few days
Stasis Accumulation Jaundice
Dull yellow skin and eyes. cheeks are relatively bright but otherwise is dark and lusterless. Gets worse as the sun increases. Right sided glomus and lumpiness which is somewhat hard, abdominal distention and fullness, lassitude of the spirit, torpid intake, easy vomiting after eating, short yellowish urine, greyish white stools, possible appearance of static macules, ejection of blood, dark red lips, yellow tongue fur.

Neonatal Jaundice: Humulus Lupulus (Hops) will often clear up jaundice in 6 hours. [Stargrove]
Jaundice is a yellow coloring of the eyes and skin.
This yellow coloring is the result of a buildup of a chemical in the blood called bilirubin.
It is a common symptom in newborn babies due to initial lack of liver development and is usually not a sign of serious illness.
In older children, it can be a sign of a liver disease or a blood disorder.
Jaundice should not be confused with carotenemia, which is an orange- yellow coloring in the skin caused by too much carotene in the diet.
Carotene is a natural food coloring found in fruits and vegetables that have a lot of Vitamin A.
It is the natural chemical in plants that causes them to be yellow or orange.
If the child is jaundiced, the white part of the eyes will also be yellow, but with carotenemia, the white parts stay white.
The easiest way to tell if a child has carotenemia instead of jaundice is to look at the white part of his eyes.
The bottom line is if the white part of the child's eyes look yellow, you should contact his pediatrician or family practitioner for an evaluation.
There are a lot of causes of excess bilirubin (hyperbilirubinemia) in the blood.
If left untreated, most of the time the bilirubin with continue to increase slightly but will not reach dangerous levels.
However, in some cases the bilirubin will continue to increase and can then act like a poison (toxin) to the nervous system, especially the brain.
This is called kernicterus and can lead to deafness, seizures, or developmental delay.
Fortunately kernicterus is rare because hyperbilirubinemia is usually easy to monitor and treat before dangerous blood levels are reached.
Bilirubin in a natural breakdown product of blood cells. Everyday, old red blood cells are destroyed and replaced with new ones.
Each red blood cell lives about 120 days.
Usually the rate of destruction and creation are in balance so that the amount of bilirubin from the destroyed blood cells is kept under control by the liver, which serves to clear bilirubin from the blood stream.
Bilirubin is then taken up into the liver where it is converted (conjugated) to another form that is then excreted into the gut.
This conjugated bilirubin is then broken down by bacteria and is what gives stool its brown to green coloring.
Conjugated bilirubin can also be broken down again into an unconjugated form that reenters the blood stream.
Herbal treatment of neonatal jaundice (NNJ) has been practiced in China for a long time.
Even to-date, a variety of herbal items, including "Yin-chin" (Artemisia), "Huang-qin" (Scutellaria), "Da-huang" (Rheum officinale), "Gan-cao" (Glycyrrhiza), and "Huang-lin" (Coptis chinesis), are still being prescribed to jaundiced infants, often in combination with modern treatment such as phototherapy and exchange transfusion.
Their efficacy has, however, not been tested by properly conducted randomized controlled trial.
Appendix B p_ notes
If the body suddenly starts destroying red blood cells (a condition called hemolysis) faster than the liver can clear the bilirubin from the blood, the result can be hyperbilirubinemia and a yellow-orange coloring will be seen in the eyes and skin.
Another way that bilirubin can accumulate in the body is if the liver is not working properly because of infection or some other condition and the conjugated bilirubin is not getting released into the intestine.
This is called cholestasis. Again, the skin and eyes will get a yellow color, and sometimes the bowel movements will be white or clay colored instead of brown, green or yellow.
-Currently, I am seeing baby girls adopted from other counties that have parasites and hepatitis.
They may or may not have mild jaundice appearance, but they have hepatic symptoms. We can help them with our medicine.
-I use Allergy Research Phyllanthus umblica (Indian gooseberry) complex – hidden in their food –Phyllanthus, Milk Thistle and dandelion root, plus acupuncture

*Cognex® (tacrine hydrochloride) is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor that induces liver damage
Cirsium arisanense Kitamura (Compositae) has been used for hundreds of years in Taiwan as a folk medicine for hepatoprotection.
However, no scientific research has demonstrated this effect. Appendix b
Silymarin at 100 μg/ml, as well as CaR and CaL, not only protect Hep 3B cells from tacrine-induced hepatotoxicity but also decrease the expression of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).
In conclusion, the phenol-containing aqueous components from C. arisanense Taiwanese herb have potential in hepatoprotection. See appendix B

The anti-hepatitis B virus activity and hepatoprotective activity of a liquid fermentation broth of Ganoderma lucidum were investigated.
The cultured broth was supplemented with aqueous extract of Radix Sophorae flavescentis.
Our results indicated that the cultured broth had effects of anti-hepatitis B virus activity in vitro and protected mice from liver damage in vivo.
Our results also indicated that the co-fermentation broth of Ganoderma lucidum in the presence of aqueous extract of Radix Sophorae flavescentis has better medicinal effects than simply mixing these two ingredients together, suggesting a potential novel way to prepare Chinese herbal mixtures.

Radix Sophorae flavescentis for Chronic Hepatitis B: A Systematic Review of Randomized Trials
Matrine showed similar antiviral activity or liver function normalization as IFN-á, a drug that is recognized worldwide as a hepatitis B treatment.
In addition, a combination therapy of matrine plus IFN-á demonstrated a better effect on clearance of HBAg and HBV DNA than IFN-á alone.
A combination of matrine and levamisole* seems better than IFN-á for ALT normalization (Zhang and Zhang, 2001).
We suggest that the combination therapy should encourage further trials to verify efficacy.

Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver that can become serious.
It spreads through contact with blood or other body fluids.
This can happen by sharing a razor, toothbrush or needles to inject drugs, or through sexual contact.
Hepatitis B causes a flu-like illness with loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, rashes, joint pain and jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin).
Diet is very important - the Eat to Live diet can relieve symptoms
An infected pregnant woman can expose her newborn to this virus during birth.
The virus stays in the liver of some people for the rest of their lives and can result in severe liver diseases or cancer.
Three doses of a new vaccine offer protection, and immunization is recommended for all infants, children and adolescents.
Some adults who are at increased risks — doctors, nurses, teachers, paramedics, police officers — may need to be vaccinated.
Hep B most common cause of liver cancer throughout the world – prevented with vaccination of babies.
